The heavy downpour from the last two days definitely increased cravings for something namakin. I Made these some sweet and savory local Singaporean munchies, Karipap, and Pineapple tart.
The Karipaps are typical of the southeast Asian region and are quite different from the savory puff pastries. Here I used cabbage and carrot mix with small slices of boiled eggs flavored with Chinese five-spice powder to fill the flaky dough and deep-fried. Chinese five Spice Powder is a common ingredient in Chinese cuisine. This Asian seasoning is a mixture of star anise, cloves, cinnamon, pepper, and fennel seeds. The Chinese Five Spice Powder is often added to stewed meats, used as marinades, or as a rub for roasted food with its sweet, spicy taste. 👇
And then made some pineapple tarts from fresh homemade pineapple jam as the filling for the mildly sweetened tarts. 👇
All in all, a great evening. The lashing rain, the cool breeze ( at least for some time), hot karipap, a few tarts, and a steaming cup of masala chai were perfect to wind down a hot and sultry day. Just logged in to share some cheer and happiness. Have a fabulous evening ahead, dear all. 💕
