Sunday Snapshot #1

Taken at Pasir Ris Beach on a beautiful evening. Pasir Ris Beach has an adjoining Pasir Ris Park that is our own charming and chirping, tranquil and temperate go to heaven for us Pasir Risians. More of this beautiful Pasir Ris Park and Beach in a separate post.

Let’s first talk about the picture. So I clicked this while I was there with a dear friend for our usual walks sometime around Kartik Pournima. . The sunset looked like the sweetest soul-blush on the western horizon. But this beauty gently rising from the eastern horizon caught my attention. I loved this calm and clear tapestry of nature bathed in the lightest of blush pinks.

“Chandra Aahe Sakshila” were my thoughts when I clicked this one. I am reminded of this song, “Chandra Aahe Sakshila,” meaning Moon, is the witness.

This Marathi song is about a romantically involved couple, their passionate involvement. And how the Moon and the elements are the witnesses for their aroused and awakened feelings and moments. This high feeling of oneness can be experienced not just in a romantic union. But one can experience these deep connections, emotions, and moments with just about anyone or anything. For instance, a painter’s passion for paints, Writer’s love for words, a potter’s connection with the clay. Or even a simple walk on the green parch of grass or on a sandy beach. Just listening to the waves sitting on the shore. Stargazing on a starry moonlit night….just about anything can give you this feeling of being whole, complete, and of oneness. And this is one such song that is relevant in so many situations. At least that’s how I see it…

This song is rendered by Asha Bhosale and Sudhir Phadake and is from the movie “Chandra Hota Sakshila.” Sudhir Phadake, or Babuji as he is lovingly called, was my Mom’s favorite Marathi singer and composer. This was also one of her loved songs…and hence thought of sharing… A bit offbeat of me to share a Marathi song about Moon when more popular Hindi numbers exalting Moon are available. But, for me, the authenticity of my emotions wins hands down over acceptability.

Please click here if you feel like listening to the song… It’s a beautiful coincidence that today is my parent’s Wedding Anniversary. They would have celebrated their 52nd…..Chandra Hota Sakshila….Chandra Aahe Sakshila.
